Extra Credit Assignment

I was given the chance this semester to be a Peer Mentor for Mr. Wright's 6th Grade P.E. class. I was with Drew Hidalgo and Karan Grewal everytime I went to North Hill on Thursdays. The things that we would do with the kids at North Hill were, evaluate them on their behavior during class time and interacting with them during games. I feel like I grew as a person because I learned from the 6th Graders is to just have fun, and relax. The kids at North Hill were just so calm every time that I saw them and I feel like I should be more like them, and learn to enjoy whatever situation is brought to me and not to think of it as something stupid or something that I would not enjoy.
Some of the little things that made me sad about going over there every week was even through three straight months of going over there, none of the kids remembered my name :( lol. I am going to enjoy coming back to North Hill for the second semester because I will be the only one out of the three of the other people that is staying in the Gym and helping Mr. Wright, and I hope that maybe this semester the kids will learn to like me and learn my name! I would actually like to keep my position at working in the Gym during Peer Mentoring time, I like where I am at, Mr. Wright is hilarious, the games the kids play are fun, and I have a blast staying there and watching over the kids!!

2nd Project Reflection

On Thursday January 27th, the Basketball rim for Kawehi and my Independent Project finally came in. We had the chance to put it up before class got out. While the other students went to go to Peer Mentoring at North Hill Elementary, Kawehi, Jorge, Mohamed, and myself stayed back and put the BRAND NEW basketball rim on the outdoor basketball court in the student parking lot. It took about at least an hour or two to complete, and it looks good on our basketball court because now we can determine which is the hoop and which is the wall. (The old rim was white, painted on a white wall, that wasn't really a bright idea.) Most of our supplies were in the box, but we were able to get a wrench and some pliers from both Mr. Gudor and Mr. Steele. It was a fun project to do, just wish we would have done it sooner instead of last minute before the end of the semester was coming to a close.
Would just like to thank Mr. Gudor and Mr. Steele for letting us borrow some of their supplies, the wrench, pliers, and the 12ft ladder! Also would like to thank Mrs. Fitz for letting us stay behind from Peer Mentoring to complete this project, and Mr. McComb for trusting us to get on a ladder by ourselves and trust that we wouldnt fall and kill ourselfs!

2nd Project Proposal

My co-leader Kawehi Olson, went to the ASB meeting last thursday and gave a verbal proposal on our second lead project. Basically what we are trying to do, is switch the ugly looking basketball rim that is located in the Student Parking Lot Basketball Court in the back of the school. We asked ASB if they would be able to cover the finances, basically getting a new rim as well as a net. ASB said they would be happy to do so, and the cost of this project has to be at least under $60 for ASB to cover it. As of right now, Kawehi as well as I, are waiting for the rim and net to get here in the mail, and then we will take down the old one and replace it with a new one. We actually do not need any help with this project, but if people wanted to ask for help we would be happy to accept it.
Things that we will need for this project are basic tools and a latter to climb on. If we can get help by people donating these things it will be greatly appreciated.
The project time in which this will take place, will hopefully be before the end of the semester, the only thing that is holding us back as of right now is the timing on when the rim and net will get here and the end of the semester being on January 27th. As soon as they come in, we will jump on this project as soon as possible!

4th Help Reflection

I took it upon myself to help out with more than the required amount of Helping Projects this semester. As my fourth helping project, i helped Karan Grewal with his intramural tournaments. I have participated as well as spread the word about the tournaments every time he had one. In the beginning of the year I participated in the Dodgeball Tournament, and my team made it to the second or third round and then got eliminated. In the late fall, early winter of this school year I went to each class room and took a survey on who would want to participate in the 4 on 4 or 5 on 5 tournaments going on during Intramurals Club. My team consisted of Casey Chandler, DeAundre Cola, Cyprus Richardson and Me. We made it to the finals and tied in the tournament, there was no set winner. As of right now, I gave word about the Football Tournament going on right now and my team is in the semi-finals of the tournament, winner of this game goes to the championships to play Karan and his undefeated team. Loser goes home. So basically these are all the things that I have helped Karan with this year and for his Intramurals Project.

3rd Help Reflection

The third person that I have helped is Molly Walsh and her Candy Gram Project. What she wanted to do was sell candy grams to the students that wanted to buy some candy with a nice letter on it to their friends. This project was a great success. Many students bought candy grams and left for Winter Break happy and with candy in their hands. I helped out with this project by sorting out the candy gram notes with their advisories. And then sending them out to their person. This was a really fun project to help out with and a lot of people from the class decided to help out with this project as well!

2nd Help Reflection

The Second group that I have helped were Derric Smith and Jorge Delgado with their basketball tournament that they had earlier in the year. Their project was to have a basketball tournament during our lunch break and the winner of the Tournament would get class spirit points! I helped with this project by walking to each classroom during 7th period and advertising it. Telling people to come to the cafeteria with a team of 5 so that they can run a full game! I also helped give my opinion on how the tournament worked out, like saying that they should have a class tournament after they figure out which one of the two teams from each class year won to have a whole school tournament. Meaning, Freshman Team, Sophomore Team, Junior Team and a Senior Team. And from that, the winner wins the whole tournament. Sadly the Freshman Team ended up winning. I believe Casey Chandler (Senior), and 4 other freshman that we rounded up won the tournament. Their weren't many Lower class-man that participated in this event, but it still turned out to be a success. I also helped out by participating and gathering up a Junior Team. My team consisted of Tekle Bishaw, Mohamed Hersey, Jessy Kharbanda, Collins Mbugua, Aldegundo Santigo (sub)and Me. Our Team made it to the finals of the Tournament, but sadly lost to Casey Chandler and his Freshman Team. The Tournament was a fun experiance and I had fun helping out and also participating in it!

1st Help Reflections

The First Person that I helped was Emily Chhun and her Bowling Project at Highline Lanes. I helped Emily in many ways: Helped by giving out my opinion on the time and date in when she should try and host the Bowling Party. I helped her sell tickets during lunch, and even tried to get the word across in the lunch room and advertise it! I also attended the event and participated in game, and would have to stay I did pretty good and had an awesome score! Overall the Bowling Party was a success, there was only a total of 20 Aviation Students there, but the people that were there all had a blast and a wonderful time!

Here are some pictures proving that I participated in this event:

1st IP Reflection

The Student parking lot remodeling was a success. My co-leaders Kawehi Olson and Corrigan Miller as well as my self were very happy that we got done with our project in time for school to be over as well as finish before the end of the Semester. We had a couple helpers there to help fill in the pot holes. Jorge Delgado, Abdul Firoz, Mohamed Hershey, and Derric Smith were all of the Volunteers that came and helped us.
We were able to finish the project pretty quickly. The most potholes were found in the entrance of the student parking lot and in the middle of where all the blocks were, in the big part of the parking lot. Didn't really need any other tools besides the rakes. It literally took about maybe 5-8 minutes to fill in one pothole and even out it surroundings.
The only problem that we had when we went out there was when we were starting out, the students that didn't have a 7th period started driving out, which made us have to redue the potholes that we already filled, especially the ones near the entrance. Another thing that could have went better was the help. We had a total of 7 people working, and if we had at least a minimum of 10, we could have finished even more quickly and wouldn't have to worry about the time.
If i were to be able to redue this project, i think the only thing that i would change would have to be the timing in which we did the project. For example, maybe do it after school, before school or on a weekend when there is no students around. Another thing would be ask for more volunteers. We had a good amount of people working we just could've used more hands!
Pictures of this event will be up ASAP!!

Where I am Now (Blog 8)

Currently right now I am getting ready to lead my first Independent Project with my two co-leaders Kawehi and Corrigan. I believe the only thing that we would really need is a couple people saying that they would like to help and contribute supplies. Things like rakes, shovels, wheelbarrels, etc would be very helpful. This project will be good because whoever helps can also get community service from doing this. The only thing we really need to do now is set a time and date on when we are going to finish this project, mostly this project is going to be done sometime next week.
Mine and Kawehi's second leadership project should be coming soon. We plan on putting a new basketball hoop and nets on the basketball hoop outside in the students' parking lot. We got our proposal excepted on Thursday and ASB said that they will be happy to help us pay for the new hoop and the net. This project will get started immediately after the hoop and net gets ordered and comes here.
Besides the two projects that I'm co-leading I have also helped out many students with their Leadership projects.
I helped out Emily Chuun with her bowling project by helping getting the word out, selling tickets and even participating in the event.
I helped Derric Smith and Jorge Delgado with their basketball tournament project by helping to get the word out, surveying the school to see if it was a good idea, finding my team of 5 people and participating in the event.
I helped Molly Walsh with her project by organizing the candy grams notes with their advisories, sticking the candies to the candy gram notes and passing them out to their advisories.
I also helped out Karan Grewal with his project many times by getting the word out and participating in them. Like the dodgeball, basketball, and football tournaments that are always held on thursdays during Intramurals Club.
So far those are the people that I have helped with their leadership projects, I can still help out more people if needed, but as for now I am happy that I helped out as many people as I did.

Parking Lot Project Proposal (blog 7)

If you have been Aviation High School's Student Parking lot, you will notice that it is a giant mess! The problem with the student parking lot has been one of the issues that most of the student body has been talking about for the past several years. This project needs to be enforced to ensure the happiness of the students as well as their safety and function of their vehicles.
So as quickly as possible, Me and my two co-partners Kawehi, and Corrigan and who ever would like to help us out on this project, will help us fill in the pot holes that are around. There are many pot holes around the parking lot, The pot holes are getting worse as time progresses; one is nearly half a foot, if not so, in depth and three feet in length and a foot in width. So what we will do to fill these pot holes up is take the excess gravel and we will rake, shovel and dump it into the pot holes to cover them up. What we will need is extra rakes, shovels, wheel barrels, etc.
This shouldnt take no longer than 3 to 4 hours, but it really depends on how much help we can get! The more people there is to help us out with this project the quicker it will be to finish. Plus this is a good opportunity for people to get their community service hours if they haven't completed their 10 hours for this year!
The reason we wanted to do this project is because many students vehicles have been damaged because of the student parking lot, and because we as students have been hearing complaints about the student parking lot and we just want to cease any negative things about the parking lot. We cannot continue to let the safety of the students to be compromised. In addition to the safety of the students and function of their vehicles, their happiness has been compromised due to anger over the damage to their car. One student needed a $300 dollar repair because of the pot holes, and compromised emotions in teens also leads to compromised actions. Another student has to change his exhaust pipe every year because its been damaged by the gravel so many times.
This project will be a positive thing for our school! It is free, all it really takes is for the other students to come and help out, any help will bring us one step closer to our goal. All we are asking for is the time from the students, donated supplies and for the patience from all the licensed students who drive everyday. This project will be done ASAP, and we should get a good turn out because of it.
